Job description of the industrial foreman

In addition to his technical competence, he is a convincing leader, because as a workshop manager with responsibility for personnel, he acts as an intermediary between the plant management and his employees.

The industrial foreman or plant foreman ensures that things run smoothly in the plant. Planning and setting up operating resources, coordinating processes in production and ensuring quality standards are his tasks. In addition, he assigns his employees activities and duties that correspond to their performance and suitability; only in this way can the industrial foreman ensure trouble-free and timely work. Type of industrial foreman continuing education:

  • Full-time: A full-time course to become an industrial foreman in its field naturally prepares students for the final examination within a very short period of time. The all-day classes, which take place from monday to friday, combine both theoretical and practical parts.
  • Part-time: part-time and shift-based master craftsman courses are usually held in evening schools as well as at weekends. In addition, so-called attendance days are obligatory, on which one practically proves one's knowledge.

Industrial master examination

The prerequisite for admission to the examination for industrial foreman is a successfully completed final examination in a recognized training occupation that is assigned to the respective specialist area. The examination, which is taken before the chamber of industry and commerce (IHK), comprises two parts:

  • Part I: interdisciplinary part (basic qualification)
  • Part II: subject-specific part (action-specific qualification)

The successful completion of the instructor aptitude test (ada certificate) is also part of the advanced training to become an industrial foreman.

Financing of the industrial foreman advanced training

If one decides for a further training or a master course, the question arises fast about a suitable financing method of the desired advanced training. Those who are unable to pay for their career-enhancing measures out of their own pocket must rely on subsidies. Fortunately, there are numerous financing options for prospective industrial foremen.

Funding opportunities for further training as an industrial foreman:

State funding under the upgrading training assistance act (AFBG) is provided by the federal ministry of education and research. If you receive a master craftsman's grant (meister-bafog) during your further training, a subsidy for the course costs and a loan are granted. After passing the examination, the freshly graduated industrial master craftsman is forgiven a quarter of the loan originally granted.
  • Education premium: provided that the vocational and financial conditions are fulfilled, one can apply the premium coupon at a value of 50% of the costs individually to vocational advanced training courses.
  • Education voucher: the employment agency issues the so-called education voucher. This is linked to an educational goal. The duration of the further training and the regional scope are also determined in advance.
  • Education loan: the low-interest loan is granted on the initiative of the federal government and can also be combined with the meister-bafog (federal training assistance act).

In addition to federal and state funding options, a master's student can, of course, also ask his or her employer for financial assistance. It is not uncommon for companies to assume part of the costs or even the costs for the entire course if the employee commits to the company for a certain number of years.
